I AM A DREAMER
My name is Mason Utset, and I am an artist, illustrator, designer, and above all, a dreamer.

At the core of who I am lies a deep drive to pursue my dreams. These dreams are not just fleeting fantasies; they are tangible goals that I strive to achieve. While they may seem vast or far off at times, I am certain that I will see them through. One of these dreams has always been, or rather, was, to become an artist—an artist who never stops dreaming, who continues to explore new forms of creative expression, and who can turn someone else’s imagination into reality.

It’s this desire to bring dreams to life that has fueled my journey. I’ve always been captivated by the idea of creating the worlds and characters that existed only in my mind—whether it was a sleek spaceship design or a whimsical character for my Dungeons & Dragons campaign. These visions were so vivid that I had to give them shape, so I picked up the pen and made them real. That was the moment I realized that if I could bring my own dreams to life, I could help others do the same.
This realization sparked my passion to become a better artist. I took my first official art class in high school, and while I had been drawing and painting long before, this was where I truly began to understand the fundamentals of design and technique. The class was at Princeton Academy of Art, where I spent a week learning the art of oil painting still lifes. By the end of those five days, I knew I had found my future.

From that point, I was all in. I enrolled at Princeton Academy of Art and painted almost daily, working from 2:30 in the afternoon until 8:00 at night. Over the next two years, I honed my skills, learned new mediums, and built a portfolio. The journey took me to the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD), where I am currently working toward a BFA in Illustration, with plans to graduate in 2028.

The dream I am chasing is to become a concept and visual development artist—someone who can turn the dreams and imaginations of others into visual reality. While I have other aspirations and projects that I hope will grow beyond simple concepts, my ultimate goal is to leave a lasting mark with my art. I want to make not only my own dreams come true but also help others’ dreams be seen and felt.

As many artists do, I hope to be recognized for my work, but more importantly, I want to help bring someone else’s vision to life. As my professor once said, “No matter what happens along the way, know that us creatively-minded individuals are driven by something deeper. This is not just something we want to do, but something we have to do. No matter the obstacles, it’s built into our very being—to be artists, to be creators, to be dreamers.”

And above all else, I am a dreamer.
